An Eye for the Magnificent: Galerie Steinitz x Christie’s

Christie’s Hong Kong
Continuing his family’s long tradition as connoisseurs and ‘antiquaires’, Benjamin Steinitz’ passion and deep knowledge of furniture and works of art is unparalleled, establishing him as one of the world’s leading authorities. Discovering masterpieces and studying their historical context by revealing their provenances is one of the main priorities of the Galerie, but also celebrating the skills and designs of the greatest 18th century French masters, pushing the boundaries of technical expertise. Among the masterpieces which passed through the hands of Steinitz – by Jean-Henri Riesener, Pierre Gouthière, Pierre-Philippe Thomire and Georges Jacob, to name a few – are numerous items which belonged to King Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, members of the Rothschild family and fashion designers such as Jacques Doucet, Karl Lagerfeld and Hubert de Givenchy. A collaboration of Galerie Steinitz and Christie’s, this is the first exhibition of its kind in Christie’s Hong Kong newly opened Henderson building, and will inspire a new generation of collectors.
